William Bass Jr.
February 28, 1943 ? August 29, 2016
Funeral services for Mr. William Bass, Jr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Freedom Baptist Church, Plainview, with Reverends Troy Doyle and Brandon Goynes officiating. Interment will follow in Occupy 1 Cemetery, Pitkin, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Bass, was called home on Monday, August 29, 2016.
William was born to the union of William and Florence (Birch) Bass on February 28, 1943. Longtime friends knew William as "Jr." and to his children and grandkids, he was "Dawg".
William worked at the Calcasieu Paper Company in Elizabeth, LA, for over sixteen years, on the dredge in Corpus Christie, TX. and for Randy Martin Logging, from Mittie, LA.
William had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Many stories were told in the outdoor kitchen about the "big catch" or the "big kill" and many gravies were cooked by William. William's love for the outdoors included his yearly crops. Many hours were spent planting and nurturing his gardens. He always overplanted so he could share with the family and friends. William took extreme pride in his children and grandchildren. To each one, he gave, their own special nicknames. William was a hardworking father and husband with strong Christian values and loved the Lord. William was a loving and providing husband to Helen for over fifty-four years.
William was proceeded in death by his parents, and lifelong best friend and hunter, Gilbert Deshotel.
Left to cherish his memory is one sister, Lucy Goodwin of Hicks; his loving and devoted wife, Helen Thompson Bass, of Glenmora, LA; four sons, John Wesley Bass, Sr. (Jimmie), Floyd "Buddy" Bass and Michael Wade Bass, all of Glenmora, LA and John William Bass (Tara) of Oakdale, LA; one daughter, Angela Bass Stowe (Chuck) of Elizabeth, LA; four grandchildren, John Wesley Bass, Jr. (Rosa) of Sioux City, SD, Zachary Bass (Lacey) of Woodworth, LA, Jessica Bass of Hicks, LA and Danielle Bass Neely (James) of Little Rock, AR; eleven great grandchildren, Jacelyn Bass, Addilyn "Winkie" Bass, Carter Bass, Jackie Daniels, Jonathan Sumbler, Jacob "JJ" Bass, McKenzie "Scappy" Bass, Dakoda Bass, Rachel Neely, Addilyn Neely and S.J. McLintock.
Pallbearers honored to serve are: Blake Fontenot, Bryne Thompson, Carlos Nolen, Dave Mixon, Matthew Willis and Shirley Jo Coker
Honorary Pallbearers to serve are: L.C. Coker and Randy Martin.
Friends may call Freedom Baptist Church, Plainview on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will reopen on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.
