Faye Oakley Bassett
Faye Oakley Bassett, age 80 passed away December 21, 2022, while under Hospice Care. She was born in Durham, NC on August 30, 1942, to the late Eugene Melvin Oakley and Viola Howell Oakley.
Faye earned an Associate of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1977. She went on to serve the position of Administrative Assistant at Yates Baptist Association until 1986 when she became the Director of Church and Community Ministries for the Association. She served for a total of thirty years and retired in 2008. Hers was a very active time of service in North Carolina and missions throughout the world.
Faye Bassett is survived by her two children, Anita Harrison (Lexie) and Ralph Leonard Bassett Jr. (Jean). She has five grandchildren. They are Elizabeth Conner (Tyler), A.C. Harrison, Allison Mitcham (Flint), Heather Bassett, and Morgan Mueller (Christian). She has four great grandchildren. They are Madilynn, Maddox, Waylon, and Clint. Faye has a sister, Hilda Durham (Kitchin), and a brother, Howell Oakley (Barbara). She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ralph Leonard Bassett.
A celebration of life is planned for Friday, January 6 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Jubilee Baptist Church, located in Chapel Hill.
