Carl Lewis Bassett, born December 12, 1946, passed away on May 3, 2026, leaving behind a life rich in love, laughter, faith, and connection.
How can one possibly capture the impact this brother, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather had on the world and on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him? Carl was the kind of person who never met a stranger. A gifted conversationalist and master storyteller, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued, whether you had known him for decades or had just met him. He was quick with a joke (especially a classic "dad" joke), always ready to break into song, and carried a warmth that naturally drew people in.
In high school, Carl's love of motorcycles led to one of the most meaningful moments of his life. After a crash, he was interviewed for the school paper on how not to ride a motorcycle by a classmate named Linda. That interview turned into a lifelong love story, and Linda became his beloved wife.
Carl began his career working alongside his father as a general contractor, where he learned the value of hard work and craftsmanship. He later transitioned into a career as a landman in the oil industry, where his communication skills and thoughtful approach made him especially effective. He loved working with both his hands and his mind?building, fixing, and solving problems with care and precision.
Despite a demanding travel schedule, Carl always made time for his children his highest priority) and while, like Mary Poppins, he was "practically perfect in every way," he did inherit one notable habit from his father - a deep love of fishing. Paired with his gift for storytelling, this resulted in some truly memorable tales. Whether casting a line, sharing stories from the past, or singing with those around him, Carl found joy in life's simple, meaningful moments.
Above all, Carl was a devoted husband and father. He and Linda built a life centered on family, raising four daughters and two sons: Sandy, Janelle, Karla, Spencer, Tiffani, and Jay. His children remember him as loving, gentle, and compassionate, as well as steadfast, protective, and strong in his beliefs. He was both fun-loving and disciplined - a man who could be playful and humorous, yet also firm, reliable, and deeply principled.
Carl was a man of faith and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many capacities, including in multiple temples. His spirituality was a guiding force in his life, reflected in the way he treated others?with kindness, thoughtfulness, and quiet strength.
Those who knew Carl remember a man who showed up for others, who lived with integrity, and who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. To his family, he was not only dependable and strong, but truly heroic.
Carl's legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Broomhead Funeral Home located at 12600 S 2200 W- Riverton, Utah.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 6:30PM - 8:30PM. 3554 W. Harvestwood Lane, Riverton, UT 84065.
