Brian David Bass
Brian David Bass, age 59, a loving father and devoted husband was born on December 11th, 1966, in Washington DC and sadly passed away on March 16th, 2026.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife - Susanne; his daughter - Taylor Brianne; his father - Milton G. "Mickey" Bass (Patty); his sisters - Sherri L. Hooper (Jeffrey); Michaela N. Bass (Fiance, Macon). He was predeceased by his mother Barbara L Simmons nee Viands.
As soon as Brian and Susanne married, his family grew instantly, gaining many brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews that he cherished and will never be forgotten.
Brian was a selfless hero, a true fighter, an avid sports lover, an inspiring coach, always had a quick wit about him, was the king of one-liners and was a natural born comedian.
In his early years, he loved playing football and baseball, hanging with his peppertree boys and being a life guard at his local pool. He briefly attended Montgomery County Community College, where he played football and also played with the Washington Nationals. Soon after, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where his passion for football continued. During his service, he became brothers with many, growing a bond that would last a lifetime - especially his Junk Yard Dogs. While in the service, Brian met the love of his life Susanne, who he would marry only a few years later with a love lasting over 30 years.
Brian worked many jobs during his lifetime to include: car lot and gas station attendant, usher/ball boy for the Washington Redskins, a volunteer fire fighter in many states/locations (Hyattstown VFC, Rockville VFC, City of Virginia Beach VFC, Stafford Township VFC, Manahawkin, NJ & Berlin, MD VFC) and an EMT. He sold life insurance and was a tow truck driver. Brian was a stagehand and briefly owned his own landscaping company. He was also a Freemason, a food and florist delivery driver, a county and a school bus driver, coach of many sports: baseball, high school football (Seneca Valley Screaming Eagles, Kellam Knights and Green Run Stallions) and of course, countless hours as Taylor's softball coach for more than 15 years. Brian was the type of father to never miss a single tryout, practice, game, tournament or anything involving supporting his daughter. His most recent jobs that he loved were driving a tractor at Johnson's Farm in Medford, NJ, cooking on his favorite food truck in Pennsylvania and being a ranger/golf cart attendant at Frontiertown Campground in MD. His true passions were his fire career and coaching football & softball.
Brian was employed as a federal firefighter, investigator and inspector (NAS Oceana, NOB Norfolk, St. Juliens Creek, Portsmouth Naval Hospital, NJ Forest Fire Service and NWS Earle) where he eventually retired in 2017. During his employment, Brian worked extremely hard to advance his fire fighting career to support his family. He obtained several certifications over many years. One that stands out is that he was trained on the NASA Space Shuttle for Airport Emergencies.
Brian enjoyed attending sporting events, celebrating the holidays, spending time with his pup Max, and always making his girls happy.
Some things he would always say: "if I could make an impact on just one player, I would feel accomplished", "hard work always pays off " and "give life everything you've got". Some great advice he would say to Taylor "If you're not at least 15 minutes early, you're late", "If you're going to build the house of life, you need to start with a strong foundation" and "Don't dwell on the past, celebrate the future."
Brian's spirit will live on in our hearts and will never be forgotten. We Love you and miss you dearly. May you rest in peace. Until we meet again.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at The Burbage Funeral Home at 3:00 pm with a one hour viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DOVE Transplant (https://dovetransplant.org/) or the Berlin Fire Company Donations-Fire/Rescue - Berlin Fire Company (https://www.berlinfire.com/page/donations).
