Andre Lamont Bassett, 59, of Homestead, Pennsylvania passed away quietly from this life into eternal life on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Howard University Hospital in NW Washington, DC, where he made his home from 1987 until his passing.
Andre the youngest of 8 children, born May 11, 1962, the son of the late James and Ruby Bassett.
Andre was born in Hazelwood and raised in Homestead, PA. He enjoyed music, at one time playing the Conga drums. He loved and played football.
Andre was a graduate of Steel Valley High School in 1980. Later attending West Virginia Wesleyan. Upon returning to Homestead he attended and received his degree in Criminal Justice at Allegheny Community College.
During his time there he was employed at The Original Station Street Hot Dog in East Liberty. While working there he met Susan Johnson and was in a 6 year relationship and were blessed with his only child in 1985, Ashley Nicole Bassett-Johnson. Andre moved to DC in 1987 where he worked for the National Children?s Center working with children with disabilities at least 20 years. He then went back into Security Protection work until his passing.
Andre Lamont Bassett is preceded in death by his parents James & Ruby Bassett, Brother Richard (Christine) Bassett, Brother William Henry Bassett, Brother James ?Jimmy? Bassett, Sister Barbara Ann Gantt, Nephews Nelson Mitchell and Jaime Bassett. Left to cherish Memories of Andre Sisters Delores Bassett-Miler, Evelyn ?Tootie Pie? Franklin (Barrett) of Homestead, PA and Ronald (Marilyn) Bassett of Atlanta, GA Daughter Ashley Nicole Bassett-Johnson and 2 Grandgirls Nadia Simone and Sasha Malia of Cincinnati, OH. Nieces Brenda, Paula, April, Katrina, Danielle, Michelle,Kimberly, Odetta, and JoAnn Nephews John, Barry, and Orlaron. Host of great nieces and nephews, great great nephew. Extended family: Eric Stevie Franklin (Vickie), Christopher Smith (Bonnie), Dale Chapman. Eric Carey, Glenn Barrett, Larry Short (Kelly), Montae Russell, Bub Gillis, Barrett Westbrooks (Willa), Eric Williams, and John Simmons of Washington, DC. His forever Special Friend and Love my Mom Susan Johnson of Cincinnati, OH.
