Vernon Bassett, 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in Bonham. Funeral: Saturday at First Baptist Church of Hurst. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Vernon was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Dixon, Mo. He served for 20 years in the Air Force and went on to a career in the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 2001 after 26 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Esther Bassett; stepmother, Bereneice Bassett; and son, Randy Bassett.
Survivors: Wife of 46 years, Oowetta Bassett; daughter, Sandra Bassett; brother, Fred Bassett of Tacoma, Wash.; grandchildren, Jessica Bassett Lee, Shane Morris, Jennifer Bassett, Michelle Morris, Miles Morris, Aaron Morris and Samantha Crouch; two nieces; and two nephews.
