- Mrs. Zella Gertrude Brown, age 91, of Bogard, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Carroll House Nursing Home. Gertrude was born September 18, 1912 in Callaway County, Missouri, the daughter of George Herman and Sarah Salmons Bell. She attended country schools.
In 1939 Gertrude married George A. Brown in Williamsburg, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
Seh received her education for medical training and was employed by the Carrollton State School for several years and moved to Nevada, Missouri where she retired from the Nevada State School. Gertrude was a member of the Bogard Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Don B. Brown and his wife, Barbara, Bogard, Missouri and George H. Brown and his wife, Dora (Jitter), Chillicothe, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Bell Pickrel, Peoria, Illinois and Ruby Bell Hook, Fort Scott, Kansas; a friend, Billy H. Smith, Carrollton, Missouri; five grandchildren, Donnie, David, Danny, Mark and Craig; seventeen great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Reuben and Walter and one great granddaughter, Devon.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the New Hope Cemetery, Calwood, Missouri. The body will lay in state after 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 14, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrolton, Missouri. The family suggests contributions be made to the charity of one's choice and may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.
