HOUSTON – Yolanda D. Bassett Alexander, 40, passed away from this life on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at L.B.J. Hospital-Houston.
Yolanda was born March 31, 1969, in Galveston, Texas to the union of Elbe and Linda Bassett Jr. She was a 1988 graduate of Ball High School. She was employed by Houston Area Woman Shelter. After the passing of her mother and other brother she rededicated her life back to Christ by rejoining her family church Jerusalem Baptist Church where she worshipped until she and her family8 moved back to Houston.
She was predeceased in death by her mother, Linda Bassett; brother Bobby Bassett; grandparents Damon and Elnora Johnson, and grandmother Juanita Bassett.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Donald Alexander, Sr. of Houston, Texas; daughter Linda; sons Donald Jr., D’Von, and D’Marcus; 1 grandson Franklin; father Elbe Bassett Jr. and wife Delores; sisters Michelle Hollins (David) of La Marque, Texas, Juanita Bassett of Galveston, Texas; and brother Elbe Bassett III (Bessie) of League City; grandfather Elbe Bassett, Sr.; aunt Gladys Cloud; undles Leon Bassett Sr. and Alex Bassett; mother and father-in-law Shirley and Charles Alexander; sisters-in-law Kathy and Phila Shawn; brothers-in-law Mark (Tracie), Roger, Kenwood (Veronica), Charles Jr. (Kathleen), and Lionel Alexander; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 23, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. at Wynn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, the Fev. A.S. Johnson, Pastor with the Rev. Alvin Shinette, officiating. Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery, Hitchcock, Texas.
