Derrick Lawrence Bassett

Derrick Lawrence Bassett, age 56, of Idlewild, MI passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
Derrick was born in Grand Rapids, MI on April 12, 1969 to Ronald and Jacklyn (VanWagner) Bassett. He attended Tri-County High School and worked in the construction field for over 30 years. He was a man of strength, kindness and humor who lived a life full of hard work and dedication to his family; he would do anything to help a friend in need.
He was a devoted father to his three children and cherished being a grandfather to his five grandchildren. He found immense joy in visiting his favorite fishing holes and spending quality time with family at the lake in Baldwin.
Derrick is survived by his parents Ronald and Jacklyn (VanWagner) Bassett of Howard City, MI, his son, Brandon Bassett (Brittney Wernette) of Mount Pleasant, MI, his daughter, Samantha Bassett of lonia, MI, his son Jameson Bassett of Coral, MI, his sister Veronica (John) Rankin of Howard City, MI, his grandchildren Benjamin Bassett, Bella Bassett, Clayton Workema, Jasper Bassett, and Sylvia Bassett. His nephew Kody (Vicki) Rankin, his niece Morgan (Vanessa) Rankin and several beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Howard City Funeral & Cremation Services, 225 E. Edgerton Street, Howard City, MI.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
Luncheon immediately following at The Green Cheetah 133 E. Edgerton St, Howard City.
He will be deeply missed and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
