Dale A., Bassett, age 81, of New Philadelphia (Barnhill), Ohio, died early
Thursday morning, October 19, 2017 in the Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia. She was born March 1, 1936 in Gilmore, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Alfred Dale and Mary Tharp Scott. Her husband, Richard Eugene Bassett, Sr. died in August of 1999. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean L. Cross; a son, Todd
Allan Bassett; two grandsons, Chad Leavers and Richard Eugene "Trey" Bassett, III, and four great-granddaughters: Taylor and Katana Leavers who perished together in a house fire, Kira Leavers, and Kendall Jean Stansbery; a sister, Kay Smalley; and a brother-in-law, Tom Smalley. She was formerly employed as a house mother at Shelter Care at Akron for about 12 years. Dale was a longtime member of the Midvale V.F.W. Post #9620 Auxiliary. She liked to pass her time crocheting, knitting, and reading romance novels, and was known to drink large volumes of coffee. She was a fan of television sports programs, but particularly liked basketball. Dale enjoyed attending auto races and activities that involved her family, especially her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Vickie A. Griffith of New Philadelphia (Barnhill), Mrs. Tara (Paul) Leavers of Midvale, Ohio; two sons, Rick Bassett and his companion Marie Pribbernow of Uhrichsville, Ohio, and Mark (Vicki) Bassett of Midvale; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley (Dave) Roseberry of Roswell, Ohio, and Helen Waltz of Midvale; three brothers: Alfred Scott of Uhrichsville, Jim (Barb) Scott of Strasburg, Ohio, and Randy
(Tabby) Scott of Bellefontaine, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 27 greatgrandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2017, in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville, with Rev. Larry Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Calling hours will be held Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
