Wayne Johnson Bassett was born in Pulaski County a few miles southwest of Dixon, Missouri, May 16, 1908. He was the third son of Elmer Ray Bassett, a farmer, and Cora Ellen Johnson Bassett, a daughter of Monroe and Naomi O. Johnson.
Wayne attended school at High Point in Pulaski County and Bell Job High School at Stickney, Missouri, Maries County.
Opal Lillian Bassett was born in Maries County, a few miles south of Hayden, Missouri, October 29, 1909, the oldest child of Thomas O. Doyel, a farmer, and Mary Etta Nelson Doyel. She attended school at Clifty and Dixon, Missouri.
Wayne and Opal were married on January 23, 1929, and lived fifty-two years of their married life in Maries County, having moved to Rolla, Missouri, in March 1981.
They are the parents of five children: Infant son (stillborn, December 20, 1929), Donald (August 26, 1931), Norris (November 5, 1936), Janice (March 29, 1940) and Arlene (July 24, 1945).
Wayne was a farmer all his adult life until he retired in 1981, due to his health, and moved to Rolla. Wayne died September 6, 1938.
All of their children are married. Donald married Bonnie Perkins; they have two sons, Michael (August 10, 1957) and Eric (May 7, 1963).
Michael and Eric are both married. Michael married Patricia Brooks and they have one daughter, Kaylee (August 4, 1987). Eric married Karen Herrick.
Norris married Joyce Edwards and they have two sons, Stephen (April 29, 1963) and Clark (July 28, 1965). Stephen married Julie Dauby.
Janice married Thomas W. Rosenburg. They have one son, Douglas (May 15, 1953), and ond daughter, Susan (August 9, 1957). Douglas married Joyce Hayelka.
Arlene married Lloyd Shanks. They have three sons and one daughter, Darrell (August 17, 1964), Mark (March 11, 1967), Terry (March 10, 1968) and Crystal (January 17, 1979). Darrell married Phyllis Barnhart. They have one son, Darren (September 13, 1988).
