Ruth Elizabeth Rotenberry Bass
Ruth Elizabeth Rotbenberry, Bass, 89, of Sun City, Arizona passed away on September 12, 2012 after suffering a massive stroke. She was preceded in death by her parents George & Emma Rotenberry, Husband William W. Bass and Sister Marie Covey. She is survived by her children, Sandra J. Baird of Phoenix, Arizona; David R. Bass of Bakersfield, California & Sue A. Heinze of Glendale, Arizona; four grandchildren and six precious great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters Mabel Karch of Pekin, Illinois, Beulah McKinney of Sun City, Arizona and Shirley Taylor of Seminole, Florida. Fifteen nieces and nephews will also miss their Aunt Ruthie.
Ruth was born October 30, 1922 in Decatur, Illinois where she met William at the Methodist Church, and they were married on Good Friday in 1943. Ruth & Bill lived in Illinois and then four small towns in Iowa where they raised their three children. After losing her husband in 1968 she moved from Fort Dodge, Iowa to Phoenix, Arizona and worked and retired from the Veterans Administration in 1988. Being a volunteer for the growing cultural centers in downtown Phoenix was very rewarding and enjoyable. Her love of the Arts prompted her friends to donate a brick at the Orpheum Theater with her name on it. Retirement years were enjoyed in Sun City, Arizona by playing golf, bridge, traveling with friends, reading and being near her children.
Ruth kept scrapbooks of her life adventures from an early age and they reveal her love of friendships, family and travel. Being a military wife during WW II and also being a civil servant herself, Ruth loved her country and the men and women who serve. She loved to hear the "fly boys" at Luke Air Force Base every evening near her home in Sun City. Her family will carry on her mottos: practice your faith at every opportunity, remember where you came from, exercise your right to vote, support small business and always root for the home team.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be October 27th, 3:00 at Lakeview United Methodist Church, Sun City. Arizona
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations are being accepted by the Arizona Hemophilia Association or Hospice of the Valley.
