  Notes	He was living with his grandfather Simon Bassett in the 1850 census of Pennsylvania. He was school teacher in the winters of 1842-1846; a carpenter and builder from 1846-1879; supreme treasurer of the Equitable Aid Union Life Insurance Society from 1879-1887 and also in 1891. He served his borough in Pennsylvania as councilman, school director, burgess and treasurer. He was one of the founders and incorporators of the Equitable Aid Union Life Insurance Society. He was a 32nd degree Mason at the time of his death. In 1885 he became a member of the Blue Lodge No. 264 F.& A.M. of Columbus. He was also a member of the Georgus Lodge Consistory at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
