Medical student, 26, killed in car wreck
A 26-year old medical student was killed early Wednesday in a one-car accident on Southwest Dosch Road.
Sam P. Bassett, 5221 S.W. Dosch Rd., died at about 2:45 a.m. when the car in which he was riding ran off the road and fell 200 feet over an embankment into a creek, said Dan Noelle, Portland Police Bureau spokesman.
Bassett, a student at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center Medical School, was employed during the summer by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
The driver of the car, Andrea Hallin, 22, 4930 N.W. Neskowin Ave., apparently lost control of the car near the 4300 block of Southwest Dosch Road, Noelle said.
Ms. Hallin was in serious condition after surgery in Good Samaritan Hospital. She suffered abdominal injuries, a fractured leg and facial lacerations, a hospital spokesman said.
Funeral for Bassett will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Church of the Madeleine, Interment will follow in Mouth Calvary Cemetery.
He was a lifetime Portland resident, educated at the University of Oregon, Central Oregon Community College and Portland State University before medical school.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Bassett, and brothers, Anthony and Joseph, all of Lake Oswego; sisters, Shawn McRae of Bremerton, Wash., and Paula Barsoti of Beaverton; grandmother, Amelia Bassett of Portland; and grandfather, Roy Ford of Portland.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the medical school advancement fund.
