He married Jessie Bell Harvey, daughter of William and Amney (Bishop) Harvey, on 19 Sep 1889 in Herkimer,New York. The marriage was performed by Rev. J.D. Corby and was recorded in the Herkimer Democrat on 25 Sep 1889.
George worked in fabric mills during his career as a foreman. He changed jobs several times as he was constantly being offered better positions. His son Jim said that his father moved eleven times while he was living at home. It was a lot of work, as they moved by horse and wagon, and itmes like carpet came in sections that were tacked to the floor. George and Jessie lived in Battle Creek, Michigan in the year 1926.
Amney (Bishop) Harvey and Jessie (Harvey) Bassett moved to Woodstock between 1932 and 1936. They had been living with Mattie Harvey, all three of them widows at the time, in Herkimer, New York, and moved when Mattie married Reuben Sparbier.
They moved into an upstairs apartment that Kenneth William Harvey found for them on Perry St. in Woodstock. They were not very long, as the stairs were a problem. K.W. then arranged for his daughter-in-law, Virginia, and two grandsons, to move into a large home on the corner of
Light St. and Drew St., where the two Grandma's boarded. K.W.'s son, Kenneth Peter, had separated from his wife Virginia. Virginia and her sons had been living with her in-laws, K.W. and Carrie, in the house on Van Sittart Ave. in Woodstock.
Jessie lived for a time on Finkle St., but was not happy there. K.W. Harvey bought the house at 41 Light St. in Woodstock for James and Margaret Bassett on the condition that Jessie live there with them. Jessie died there in the fall of 1943. She was buried in the Bassett family plot, Lot 135, on 12 Oct 1943.
He and his wife are buried in the family plot along with his father in Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer, New York.
