Kendallville - Janet Irene Bassett, 87, of Kendallville, Indiana, died Friday, December 26, 2025, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
Mrs. Bassett was born in Hudson, Indiana, on February 4, 1938, to the late Donald Paul Mansberger and Delilah Violet (Strayer) Mansberger. She graduated from Salem Center High School, Salem Center, Indiana, in 1956 and completed her bachelor's degree in education at St. Francis University in 1970, followed by her master's degree in education from Indiana University in 1974. She married Richard Lee Bassett on June 20, 1959, at the Hudson United Brethren Church. Mrs. Bassett taught second grade for 27 years for the East Noble Corporation years before retiring in 1998.
She was a past member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She was on various committees and served as a youth group leader and Sunday school teacher. She is a member of the Hudson United Brethren Church.
Survivors include daughter, Cynthia and Tim Moore of Albion; son, Eric and Sherri Bassett of Kendallville; grandchildren, Josiah and Amy Moore of Columbia City and Hannah Moore, of Albion, Christopher Bassett of Clancy, Montana, and Amanda and Doug Brady of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Evan Bassett of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse and grandson, Nathaniel Moore.
Visitation will be held from 10-12 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2025, at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Funeral services will be immediately following at 12 p.m. with Pastor Craig Burkholder officiating.
Burial will take place at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville. Pallbearers will be Jeff Bassett, David Bassett, Thomas Bassett, Mark Bassett, Kevin Bassett, Bill Bassett and Scott Warstler.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hudson United Brethren Church.

Bassetts â?? 50th
Richard and Janet (Mansberger) Bassett of Kendalville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their family. The couple were married June 20, 1959, at the United Brethren Church in Hudson. Mr. Bassett was employed for several years as chief engineer for WAWK radio station and retired from Triax Cablevision where he was plant manager. Mrs. Bassett retired from East Noble School Corporation after 27 years as an elementary teacher. They have a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Tim Moore of Albion, and a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Sherri Bassett of Avilla. They also have six grandchildren.
