Henry Bass
East Peoria - Henry K. "Hank" Bass, 82, formerly of East Peoria, died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Washington Christian Village in Washington, Illinois.He was born on June 25, 1923, in LaRose, Illinois, to Harold and Edna C. Kamp Bass. He married Mary Ellen Baum on Feb. 26, 1945, in Toluca, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2002, in Washington.Surviving are three daughters, Kathi (Jim) Webb of East Peoria, Illinois, Vicki Scott of Washington, Illinois, and Becky (Steve) Rammes of Port Washington, Wisconsin; two brothers, Russ (Nellie) Bass of East Peoria, Illinois, and Buford "Duffy" (Helen) Bass of Normal, Illinois; one sister, Phyllis (Jerry) Prunty of Lawrenceville, Georgia; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rodger Bass.He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having attained the rank of Aviation Machinists Mate, Second Class. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2078 in East Peoria, and the American Legion in Morton.He was a heavy equipment operator for BFI, and had previously managed several Firestone stores in Springfield, Champaign and Peoria.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in East Peoria.A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in East Peoria. The Reverend Dr. Alan Newhall will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to services Sunday at church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to his church.Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
