Charles Bass Dies: Retired Superintendent
BERLIN (Special) ? Charles Bass, 53, of 200 Longview Dr., Kensington, for 30 years superintendent of the Plainville branch of the New Haven Trap Rock quarry, died Wednesday at his home after a long illness.
Born in New Britain, he was a graduate of Meriden High School in 1934 and Morse Business College, Hartford, two years later.
He retired two years ago as head of the Plainville operations of the big trap rock company. Mr. Bass was a member of St. Paul?s Church, Kensington, a past president of the New Britain Quartet Club, and a past president of the Federated Clubs of Connecticut, and was also a member of the New Britain Lodge of the Moose.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Josephine DiPietro Bass; two sons, Richard Bass of New Britain and John Bass with the Army in Texas; a daughter, Miss Julie Bass of Unionville, and a brother, William Bass of Meriden; and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Welintikonis and Mrs. Walter Rivers, both of Plainville.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at the funeral home, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 109 North St., New Britain, is in charge of arrangements.
