Death of Mr. John Bassett
Mr. John Bassett, who had been confined to his bed for some time, died at the residence of his step-mother, at Maclean, on Sunday aftgernoon. The deceased was 33 years of age, and succumbed to consumption, from thich he had been a sufferer for some considerable time, latterly growing gradually weaker, despite the most careful nursing and medical attendance. He was born on Ashby Island and resided all his lifetime onte the Clarence. His mother died 17 years ago and his father (the late Mr. Thomas Bassett) died at Maclean two years ago. He was a twin brother to Mr. Frank Bassett, school teacher at Waverley, other brothers being Messrs. William Bassett (who resides at Warregah), Alexander (Chatswood, North Sydney) and Edward (Mullimbimby), Mrs. Barrow, of Summer Hill, is a sister. The remains of the deceased were interred in the Presbyterian cemetery at Mclean yesterday afternoon, and the funeral was attended by a large number of the friends of deceased. The burial service was read by the Rev. T. Scott Neil. Mr. Dugald Macdonald conducted the funeral. Yesterday the Rev. D. McInnes informed Mrs. Bassett that he was unable to attend the funeral of the deceased, on account of his having received and urgent call to an aged lady?s bedside. We may state the rev. gentleman was most constant in his attendance on the deceased for many months, and especially just before the end.
