      Gettysburg - Violet Stocker, 88, of Gettysburg passed away Monday, April 23, 2007, at the Gettysburg Medical Center, after suffering a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg, with Reverend Susan O'Connell presiding. Burial will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery, directed by Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Violet was born May 25, 1918, in Gettysburg, South Dakota, to Dr. Bert and Frances Bassett. She graduated from Gettysburg High School. On August 2, 1936, she married her childhood sweetheart, Worth Stocker. Their union produced two daughters. Violet worked in Gettysburg as a bookkeeper and business owner. She loved people. She formed lifelong bonds with the young people in her employ and touched the lives of many. Violet was a member of the United Methodist Church and achieved title of "Worthy Matron" in the Eastern Star. Violet was 90 pounds of spunk and determination, sincerity and compassion. She was an extraordinary, self-sacrificing, loving woman; always willing to lend a helping hand, advise, console and offer hope. Throughout her lifetime, Violet brought joy to many, but it was in the love of family she found her own greatest happiness. Violet is survived by her husband, Worth; two daughters, Shari Bowden and Kay (Don) Archer, all of Gettysburg; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Vernice and Hallie; one sister, Grace Polich; and one son-in-law, Don Bowden. For online registry, visit www.familyfuneralhome.net.
