The Late Jas. J. Bassett
The funeral of James Joseph Bassett took place on Thursday morning from 171 Brunswick street, with full miliary honors to St. Mary?s cathedral, where Requiem High Mass was celebrated. Interment was in Mount Olivet cemetery. The late Mr. Bassett who was at the time of his death only in the twenty-third year of his age, saw active service at the front, and while there was gassed, leaving him with heart failure, which was the cause of his death. ?Joe?, as he was known to his many friends, went to his work at Wentzells Limited on Monday morning, but after dinner while making preparations for his afternoon?s work, he suddenly became unconscious and died before medical aid could be summoned. The heartfelt sympathy of many friends goes out to Mrs. Bassett in her bereavement. She was formerly Miss Mary Diffey, of this city, and a sorrowing fact is that they had only been married five months. Scarcely fifteen minutes had elapsed since he left his home until she received word of his death. In his death not only has Mrs. Bassett lost a kind and loving husband, but Wentzells Limited have lost a faithful employee.
