PLEASANT POINT - Veronica Teresa (Tomah) Bassett, 78, died Dec. 20, 1999, at a
Calais hospital. She was born Nov. 24, 1921, the daughter of Sabattis a
Jenny (Nicholas) Tomah. She was a traditional medicine woman and basket maker.
She loved sports, the out-of-doors and she especially loved to fish. She had a
heart of gold. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bassett; five
daughters, Joyce Doten, Brenda Breeze, and Sophia Paul, all of Pleasant Point,
Venus Murphy of Indian Township, Jamie Murphy of Perry; four sons, Robe
Tomah, Joseph Murphy, Kenneth Murphy and Travis Murphy; 15 grandchildren, many
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sons,
two sisters and three brothers. Friends may call at their residence Wednesday,
Dec. 22, 1999. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday,
Dec. 23, 1999, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Pleasant Point, Perry, with Fr.
Morin, celebrant. Interment will be in Tribal Cemetery.
