Bassetts – 50th
Richard and Janet (Mansberger) Bassett of Kendalville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their family. The couple were married June 20, 1959, at the United Brethren Church in Hudson. Mr. Bassett was employed for several years as chief engineer for WAWK radio station and retired from Triax Cablevision where he was plant manager. Mrs. Bassett retired from East Noble School Corporation after 27 years as an elementary teacher. They have a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Tim Moore of Albion, and a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Sherri Bassett of Avilla. They also have six grandchildren.
He took part in DNA testing as kit #196326.

KENDALLVILLE - Richard Lee Bassett, 81, of Kendallville, Indiana, died Monday, May 28, 2018, at Orchard Pointe in Kendallville.
Mr. Bassett was born in Jackson Township, DeKalb County, Indiana, on May 7, 1937, to the late Virgil John Bassett and Flossie Marie (Keeler) Bassett. He graduated from Riverdale High School, St. Joe, Indiana, in 1955 and Coyne Electronics Technical College, Chicago, Illinois, in 1957. He served his country in the United States Army and the National Guard from 1958-1962. He married Janet Irene Mansberger on June 20, 1959, at the Hudson United Brethren Church. Mr. Bassett was an electronics engineer and was employed with Stroman Electronics, WAWK Radio as chief engineer, and Triax Cable as plant manager for 20 years before retiring in 1997.
He was a past member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee, youth group leader and Sunday school teacher. He is a member of the Hudson United Brethren Church and American Legion Post 86 of Kendallville.
Survivors include: wife, Janet Bassett of Kendallville; daughter, Cynthia and Tim Moore of Albion; son, Eric and Sherri Bassett of Avilla; grandchildren, Nathaniel Moore of Marion, Josiah Moore and Hannah Moore, both of Albion, Christopher Bassett of Herriman, Utah, and Amanda Bassett and Evan Bassett, both of Avilla; and sister, Dessie Marie Biddle of Kendallville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Virgil Bassett Jr. and Merle Bassett.
Visitation will held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Hite Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Burkholder officiating.
Burial with military honors will take place at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville. Pallbearers will be Jeff Bassett, David Bassett, Thomas Bassett, Mark Bassett, Kevin Bassett, Bill Bassett and Scott Warstler.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hudson United Brethren Church or to Heartland Hospice.
