      Robert K. Bassett

Robert K. Bassett, for many years a highly respected resident of Mount Union, died in Shirleysburg Tuesday afternoon, May 1, 1945, after a brief illness. He had been in failing health for some time but his death came as a shock to many Mount Union people who knew him well.
He was born in Washington D.C. on June 16, 1878, the son of Isaac and Mortimer Zimmerman Bassett. He was brought up in the capital city and attended school there. When a young he came to Mount Union with his parents.
He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and was faithful in attendance at Sunday School and worship as long as his health permitted. Mr. Bassett was always a gentleman and had many friends among the older residents of Mount Union who were saddened by news of his death.
He was a bachelor. Surviving are two brothers and a sister: Isaac Bassett, Jr., Washington D.C.; John Bassett, Media; and Mrs. Ralph L. Adams, whose home is in suburban Philadelphia.
Friends may call at the Clark funeral home after Thursday noon. The funeral service will be held there at 7 p.m. on Thursday, the Rev. Harold G. Keen, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be made in Washington D.C.
