Virgil Bassett
Virgil Bassett, 64, of Auburn died yesterday in Woodridge Health Care Center, Fort Wayne. Since 1973, he owned Bassett Office Supply Co. in Auburn and was the DeKalb County weights and measures inspector.
Surviving are his wife Linda; sons, Jeff of Auburn and David of Stroh; daughter, Patti Warstler of Garrett; brothers, Merle of Auburn and Richard of Kendallville; sister, Dessie Biddle of Dousman, Wis.; and five grandchildrdn. Services will be held at 1 p.m Monday in Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, with calling 2 to 8 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden Lake.

Virgil Bassett, son of Virgil John and Flossie (Keeler) Bassett. He is the grandson of John Edward and Charlotte Edna (Callender) Bassett and William and Daisy (Meek) Keeler. He was born the eldest son on 11 December 1929, with brothers: Merle and Richard, and a sister, Dessie (Bassett) Biddle. He graduated from St. Joe High School.
He married 11 November 1956 to Linda Joyce Ransburg, daughter of Reuel V. and Evelyn (Shufelt) Ransburg, residents of Stueben County. She is the granddaughter of John F. and Mattie M. (Zeller) Ransburg and Eugene M. and Etta Josephine (Hughes) Shufelt. Linda graduated from Pleasant Lake High School and Elkhart University as a lab and X-ray technician. Linda has one brother, Dan Ransburg, who lives in Hudson, Indiana.
They are the parents of Jeffrey, born 28 December 1957, married Karen Krick, 21 April 1979; David, born 25 June 1961; twin daughters who died in infancy in 1963; and Patricia, born 19 October 1965, married Bryan Scott Warslter, 22 September 1984.
Virgil worked at Fruhauf Trailer, Warner Gear, Dana Corporation, and Mid-City Typewriter. Linda had worked in various doctors offices in South Bend and Fort Wayne, and in the Sacred Heart Hospital and Garrett Hospital. Since 1973, they have owned Bassett Office Supply in Auburn. Virgil has been Inspector of Weights and Measures for DeKalb County since 1973.
They are both active in St. John's United Church of Christ in Hudson. Virgil is a member of Auburn Rotary Club and Linda has served as a 4-H leader and a member of the ChatterBelle Extension Club.
They enjoy travelling and have hosted many exchange students in their home through the Rotary Exchange and Tri-State University and can claim to have a friend on every continent.
