Bessette, Sr., 80, a lifelong St. Albans resident, died Monday afternoon, December 8, 1997 at VerDelle Village ECF following a lengthy illness. He was born in St. Albans June 26, 1917, the son of the late Andrew and Getrude (Richard) Bessette. On October 26, 1940 in St. Paul?s United Methodist Church he married Louella Brown who survives him. Fred was a retired mechanic having worked at Hungerford?s for 15 years and other area automobile businesses. Prior to that he was a boiler maker for Central Vermont Railway for 14 years. He was in the third of four generations in his family to work in the railroad. He was a member of St. Paul?s United Methodist Church and the Phi Alpha Class and Men?s Breakfast Club of the church. After his retirement he and Louella enjoyed traveling together. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Louella, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Frederick Jr. and Chun Bessette of Wichita Falls, Texas, Sylvia ?Kitty? and Richard Greene of St. Albans, Betty and Larry Bombardier of St. Albans and Adnrew and Marie Bessette of St. Albans; a sister, Pauline Esposito of Homosassa, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Brian and Brad Bomardier of St. Albans, Corren and Mikel Miller of Austin, Texas, Cynthia and David Messier of Williston, Toney Greene, Leah Greene, Michael Bessette, Gregory Bessette and Jeremy Bessette, all of St. Albans; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Doris Bessette, Ethel Gaudette and Mildres Esposito and by a brother, Arnold ?Bud? Bessette. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul?s United Methodist Church with the Reverend Oren Lane officiating. Spring interment will be in the family lot at St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 40 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.
