- 3B36571. Elisha S. Bassett, son of John Bassett, was born in 1811 in Massachusetts. He died 23 Mar 1897 in New York. He married Eliza Polley, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Smith) Polly, about 1833. She was born in 1817. She died in 1881. He is buried in Gravesville, Herkimer County, New York.
Elisha and his son Issac both servied in Company C, 121st Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry. Elisha's cemetery stone indicates ('Co. C. 121st Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers').
In the 1855 census of Herkimer County (June 1), Elisha (age 43) was a shoemaker and his property was valued at $600.00. It also listed his wife Elisa (age 38), his son George (age 21), daughter Ellen (age 16) and son Isaac (age 13). The family had lived in the county for 1 year at the
time of the census.
Elisha's death was recorded in the Herkimer Democrat on March 31, 1897. It indicated that he died at the home of Harvey Carpenter at the age of 86 years, and that he was a veteran of the late war. This information was found at the Herkimer County Historical Society.
Elisha and Eliza are buried with their children Isaac N. Bassett and Lizzie David in Section 2H of the Gravesville Cemetery in Gravesville, Herkimer County, New York.
