Catherine ?Cathy? Bass Lennon
NEWPORT, Tenn. -- Catherine "Cathy" Lennon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025. She was surrounded by the love of her family and the comforting promise of her faith.
She was born April 2, 1948, the daughter of Lonnie and Glennie Mae Bass. She was preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, her brothers, Thomas Bass and Buck Bass; and her sisters, Gladys Butler, Merle Ransom and Margaret Heustess.
Cathy shared her love generously, often through the meals and baked treats she joyfully prepared for her neighbors and friends. She also delighted in creating handmade crafts and gifts that so many people enjoyed ? leaving them with keepsakes that reflected the gift of herself and her time. Her kitchen was always open, her heart always warm, and her kindness touched countless lives in her community.
A celebration of Cathy's life will be held with a drop-in gathering from 2?4 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Memorial Baptist Church, 221 W. Broadway, Newport, Tenn. 37821.
There will also be a celebration of life Saturday, July 19, in North Carolina. More details of this event will be provided as they are verified.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Eddie Lennon; her loving daughters, Deana Evans (Robert) and Elsie Catoe; her cherished grandson, Charles Evans (Anya); her sister, Faye McLam (Howard); her sister-in-law, Wanda Bass, wife of her late brother Buck Bass; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Christine Lennon, Charles Lennon and Joe and Jewell Lennon; a host of treasured nieces and nephews; and Godson QinYuan Yin (Joy).
