      William R. Bass Jr.

      William R. "Bill" Bass Jr., 81, of East Palatka, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at the Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following a brief illness.

      Bill was born in Pelham, Ga., and had been a resident of East Palatka for the past 35 years, coming from Orlando. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. In 1985 he and his son, Daniel, established Bass Flowers in East Palatka and retired from the business several years ago. He had been an active member of the Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka where he was in the Men's Fellowship, was past Chairman of the Board of Stewards and served on the board for three years, and he served on the Missions Committee. He enjoyed genealogy and traveling.

      He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Hunt Bass; his father, Russell Bass Sr.; his mother, Jennifer Poore; one brother, Herbert Bass; and his stepmother, Elizabeth Bass.

      Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Edith Johnson Bass of East Palatka; three sons and daughters-in-law, Russ and Karen Bass of Plant City, Daniel and Carmen Bass of East Palatka, and David and Jeri Bass of Apopka; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Bob Baker of Winter Garden, and Marybeth and Danny Harvey of Leesburg; three sisters and brother-in-law, Faye Oddy of Brandon, Kay Stephens of Orlando, and Dot and Clark Knowles of Chico, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 at the Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka. Calling hours will begin at 2 p.m. at the church. Committal services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Shiloh Cemetery in Fruitland Park. Pastor Michael Hudson will officiate.
