Vivienne Cooper
Cooper Vivienne Bass A retired pharmacist, educator, and Detroit resident for over 75 years, died on April 14, 2010. She was ninety-five years old. Vivienne was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Arthur Bass on February 25, 1915 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. She entered the Detroit College of Pharmacy in 1942 and received her B.S. in Pharmacy in 1946 and was in partnership with her husband in establishing and running Cooper's Drugs on Tireman Avenue in Detroit. Vivienne went on to receive her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education from Wayne State University. She was also a Doctoral candidate in Education at the University of Michigan. She retired from the Detroit Public School System as a Vice Principal after devoting over 20 years to the educational system. Over the years, Vivienne was an active community volunteer for the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and numerous other organizations. Vivienne was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Claude Herman Cooper, a pharmacist and long-time Detroit resident. They have two sons, Claude Cooper, Jr. and Dr. Mark Cooper and his wife Felicia Davis Cooper of Fargo, North Dakota. Services will be held at Plymouth United Church of Christ, 600 East Warren Ave., Detroit, MI 48201 on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Family Hour from 9-10 a.m. Funeral Service 10 a.m.
