Judy Bassett
Judy Bassett, 81, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, in Corvallis, Oregon. Born October 19, 1943, in Spokane, Washington, to Brydon and Vilma Johnson, Judy was known as the eternal optimist, finding silver linings and joy in even life's twists and turns.
Judy spent her career as a teacher in the Portland area, retiring from Gregory Heights Middle School in 1999. She was an avid reader, a lifelong Portland Trail Blazers fan, and a devoted Episcopalian. Judy was also known for her quick wit and her passion for speaking up on issues she cared about, often through her spirited letters to the Oregonian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her daughter, Kristi Coleman; her daughter-in-law, Angela Bassett; and her parents. She is survived by her son, Jeff Bassett, and his children Tyler, Jake, and Kessley (married to Jimmy Carchi, parents to Lucas Carchi Bassett); her daughter Katy McLeod, son-in-law Justin, and their children Charlotte and Logan; and her son-in-law Steve Coleman and grandson Noah Coleman.
Judy will be remembered for her warmth, her sharp and playful humor, her unwavering optimism, and the way she made everyone around her feel valued and loved.
A funeral service will be held at St. Luke by the Sea Episcopal Church in Waldport, Oregon, on Saturday, December 27th, at 11:00 a.m.
