Jesse H. Bassett Sr., 1065 Yankee Run Road, N.E., Masury, passed away at 10:09 a.m. Thursday (1 Jan 2009), his birthday, in the intensive care unit of Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, Ohio. He was 74. Mr. Bassett was born Jan. 1, 1935, Newcomerstown, Ohio, a son of the late Charles H. and Barbara C. Wagner Bassett. He attended school in Newcomerstown. Mr. Bassett retired in 1992 from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he worked in the blast furnace and car shop for 28 years. He was a member of Hubbard Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his wife, the former Martha Whitfield, whom he married March 9, 1968, at home; a daughter, Barbara Fontana and her companion Sherman Taylor, Masury; a son, Jesse H. Bassett Jr. and his wife Monica, Hubbard; four sisters, Ruth Carr, Coshocton, Ohio; Diane Green and her husband Jim, New Philadelphia, Ohio; and Dixie Bricker and her husband Glenn; and Connie Parks and her husband Frank, all of Newcomerstown; one brother, Charles Edward Bassett, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, Brandon Smith and Sean Taylor; one aunt Ruth Watson, Hermitage; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by three sisters, Joann Miller, Florence Schupp and Hope Goff; and an aunt, Minnie Glidden.
