John R. Bassett

John R. Bassett, 87, Bakerton, passed away December 2, 2020, at Miners Medical Center, Hastings. Born April 6, 1933, in Bakerton, the son of William and Emily (Chrestler) Bassett. Preceded in death by parents; brother, James Bassett; sister, Dawn Lane; and grandson, Brandon Bassett. Survived by loving wife of 65 years, Monabelle (Lane) Bassett; daughter, Jacki, wife of John Stevens; sons, Donald, Tim and Drew Bassett, all of Bakerton; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Brother of Dick Bassett, Ohio; Gary Bassett, Johnstown; and Debbie Lamont, Bakerton. Retired coalminer. A faithful member of Bakerton Methodist Church, John served as caretaker and rang the church bell every Sunday for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and gardening. He was deeply loved and will be missed greatly by his family. Honoring John's wishes there will be no viewing or services. Interment will be in Bakerton Methodist Cemetery. Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria in charge of arrangements.
