John Ray Bass
Mount Vernon - John Ray Bass, 56, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, February 26, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. John was born August 9, 1947, in Vincennes, the son of Barnett A. and Frances Z. Bass. He was employed by Westech Fence for 32 years. He loved to fish, collect toy cars and build bird houses. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Cathy Ann (Wallis) Bass of Mount Vernon. Also surviving are his sisters, Augusta Biggs and Rose Sanders of Vincennes, Daisy Walker of Blanchester, Ohio, and Nancy Shaner of East Point, Florida; two brothers, Barnett Bass Jr. of Vincennes and David Bass of Fort Branch; three grandchildren, Amanda, Casey and Brenna Bass; and one great-grandchild, Zachariah Lee Bass. He was preceded in death by a son, John E. Bass, December 26, 1999; daughter-in-law, Sandy Bass, December 5, 2001; a brother, Chester Bass; a sister, Carrie E. Stroud; and his parents. The funeral service was held today at Austin Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with the Reverend Tom Buffington officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
