Bass Sr., of 102 Lochlomond Road, Philipsburg, formerly of Manheim, died of natural causes Wednesday at home. A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired in 1975 after 20 years of service that included tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea. Bass was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Cincinnati. He graduated from McNichols High School, Cincinnati, in 1957. He enjoyed sports. Born in Cincinnati, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lillian Whittenburg Bass. He was married to Mary M. Steele Bass. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James T. Jr. of Stevensville, Mich.; three grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane, married to Richard Frazier of Cincinnati; and two brothers, George A. and Edward, both of Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky Zimmerman; a brother, Charles O.; and a sister, Betty Ann Frazier.
