Rosario Bessette War Medal Winner, Dies
CHICOPEE – Rosario Bessette, 53, of 618 Grattan St., Aldenville, died Thursday in Providence Hospital, Holyoke. Born in Webster, he was the son of the late Ulric and Delia (Monty) Bessette and had lived in Aldenville for the past 52 years. He was graduated from St. Joan of Arc School and Chicopee High School.
He was a veteran of service with the U.S. Air Corps during World War II, serving in Europe. He took part in the Normandy and Ardennes offensives and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the American Defense Ribbon.He was a charter member of American Legion Post 337 of Aldenville.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Catherine (Mahoney) Bessette, Mr. Bessette leaves a brother, Gerard, of Aldenville; five sisters, Mrs. Maida Dube of Reading, Mrs. Cecile St. Andrew of ALdenville, Mrs. Claire Manseau of Holyoke, Mrs. Marie Antoinette Demers of Canton, Me., and Mrs. Lucille Benoit of Springfield.
The funeral will be held at J.H. Fleury and Sons funeral home, Aldenville, Monday at 8.30 a.m. with a solemn requiem high mass at 9 in St. Rose de Lima Church, Aldenville. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10.
