Nancy Hayes Bass
October 23, 1950 ? July 2, 2009
Nancy Naomi Hayes Bass passed away peacefully at her home in Hammond, LA, on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, surrounded by her family and friends and enveloped in the love she has shown to so many all of her life. Nancy was born in Baton Rouge, on October 23, 1950, to the late Rufus and Evelyn Hayes.
She positively influenced many area residents in her capacities as a teacher and children?s ministry director and through her participation in community theater and other activities. Her true passion was her children and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of thirty five years, Carrol Bass; her devoted children, Rebecca Bass Seale and husband Mark, Christopher Carrol Bass and wife Judy, John Hayes Donnes and wife Genna, Michael Denver Bass and wife Elizabeth; nine precious grandchildren, Brady, Amber, Alexandra, Brett Carrol, Connor, Nancy Naomi, Rebekah, John Ross and Alexis. Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Della Hayes Hall, Dr. Evelyn K. Hayes and close family friend Helen Pope; brother-in-law, Frank Boyd, and two nephews, Rufus and Charles Boyd, along with extended family members.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Sunday, July 5, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at First United Methodist Church of Hammond on Monday, July 6, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral services at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Joe Donakey. A private graveside service will follow.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Sterling Sightler, the Oncology Department of the Baton Rouge General Medical Center, and National Infusion for their professionalism and compassion.
Pallbearers for the service are Wayne Bickley, Frank Boyd, Brett Duncan, Richard Garner, Allan Lenhardt and Chris McRae.
In honor of Nancy?s life and devotion to children, the family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to the Nancy Hayes Bass Memorial Fund for children?s ministries, C/O First United Methodist Church of Hammond, 2200 Rue Denise, Hammond, La 70403.
