Katherine B. Charter Former Gouverneur Resident
The funeral for Katherine Bass Charter, 83, Jamesville, formerly of Gouverneur and Constantia, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan D. Kinney, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Charter died Sunday evening at Community-General Hospital, Syracuse.
A calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
While residing in the north country, Mrs. Charter worked at Montgomery Ward, Watertown, and the former Kaplan's Clothing Store and A&P grocery store in Gouverneur.
She enjoyed playing the piano.
Born Dec. 15, 1915, in Watertown, a daughter of Leonard and Eva Hall Bass, she graduated from Gouverneur High School.
She had been married. She and her husband, Clarence Burton Charter, had been separated for many years before his death on Aug. 16, 1964.
Mrs. Charter had resided with a longtime companion, James Kennedy, who died before her.
Surviving are a nephew, Robert H. Drake, Elmdale; two great- nieces, a great-nephew, great- great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Her sister, Muriel A. Bass, died Dec. 4, 1978.
