Dorothy G. Bass
NEWPORT NEWS - Dorothy G. Bass, 73, a native of Ridgeway, died Sunday, Sept. 5.
Mrs. Bass retired from the Newport News school system in 1979 after 27 years as a teacher.
A member of First United Methodist Church, Mrs. Bass served as president of United Methodist Women's Club and Circle Number One. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association, past president of the Women's Club of Hilton Village, past president of Applewhite Teachers Garden Club and corresponding secretary of the Peninsula Fine Arts Center Guild.
Survived by her husband, Clyde H. Bass; three daughters, Brenda Lipscomb of Fredericksburg, Betty Belanger of Herndon, Barbara Basil of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Ada Wolters of Washington, D.C.; Gladys Cooper, Francis Fishel and Sadie Byrd of Martinsville; two brothers, Joseph Gilley of Hampton and Jack Gilley of Martinsville; and four grandchildren.
Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church by the Rev. P. Edward Leonard Jr. Burial in Peninsula Memorial Park.
Visitation from 7 to 8 tonight at Peninsula Funeral Home.
