Gordon Munro Bass
Born in Rutherford, New Jersey on May 28, 1910 to Thomas Donald and Edith (Edgington) Bass, his life was suddenly completed on August 11, 1996 one day after his last crossing of Puget Sound on his sailboat. While attending Ohio State University, is father was transferred to Seattle; he helped hi parents move here and never left the Northwest. He had a lifelong career in the hotel business which started during the Depression with the job of night clerk at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel in Seattle. In 1971 he became President of the West hotel chain and was Vice Chairman of the Board at the time of his retirement. He enjoyed golf and sailing and was a member of the Seattle Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife Phebe Anne; daughter, Jo Anne and son-in-law Donald Rosen; son, Tom; grandchildren, Shelly Rosen-Westgaard, Stephen and Alex Rosen, Charles and Nick Bass; twin great-grandchildren, Patrick and William Westgaard.
The families reception for the friends of Mrs. Bass will be held at Horizon House, 900 University Street on Tuesday, August 20, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church o9f Seattle on Wednesday, August 21, at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances many be made to the Community Services for the Blind, 9709 3rd N.E., #100, Seattle, WA 98115 or your favorite charity.
