Robert D. ?Moonie? Bassett
Ionia/Middlesex- Robert D. ?Moonie? Bassett, age 56, died on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital.
The Bassett family will receive friends and family on Wednesday (Sept. 21st) from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Bloomfield Congregational Church, 9035 Rtes. 5 & 20, West Bloomfield, NY.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday (Sept. 26th) at 11 a.m. at the Middlesex United Methodist Church, 1162 Rte. 245, Middlesex, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West Bloomfield Fire Department, 2538 Co. Rd. # 37, Bloomfield, NY 14469; or the Ionia Fire Department, 8338 Co. Rd. #14, Ionia, NY 14475.
Bob was the son of the late Durwood and Ruth Gavette Bassett. He was born in Canandaigua on Oct 14, 1959. Bob had worked for Bonna Terra Farms in West Bloomfield. He had driven ambulance for the Canandaigua Emergency Squad for several years. Bob belonged to numerous fire departments, and was Fire Chief of the West Bloomfield Fire Department for 5 years. He enjoyed all the fire department activities.
Bob loved his grandkids. He and his late wife, Robin, hosted regular Friday night family dinners at their house. Bob enjoyed attending the Saturday night stock car races in Canandaigua, with his son-in-law, George.
Bob is survived by four daughters, Tanya (George Ferner) Anderson, Samanthia Baker, Jessica Bassett and Nicole Bassett; one son, Dustin Bassett; seven grandchildren, Devin (Lindsay), Noah, Alexa, Savannah, Dakota, Ashley and Rebecca; four sisters, Debbie (David) Cooper, June (Jonah) Bassett-Nolan, Lourie (Dale) Cayward, and Lisa (Melanie Messier) Bassett; six brothers, Rodney (Darrell) Bassett, Larry (Janice) Bassett, Rusty (Laura) Bassett, Paul (Donna) Bassett, Durwood ?Ben? (Fran) Bassett, and Christopher (Jennifer) Bassett; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Robin on June 6, 2016; and his brother, Gene Bassett.
