Joy Udell Bass
Joy Udell Bass, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and retired educator, passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 87, at Wesley House Assisted Living in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She was born on June 21, 1937, in Farmersville, Texas, to Ralph and Imogene Mason.
Joy retired after many years of dedicated service as a third-grade teacher with the Fort Bend Independent School District. Her love for teaching and nurturing spirit impacted the lives of countless students, and her legacy as an educator will be cherished by all who knew her.
A devoted member of Southside Baptist Church, Joy found strength and comfort in her faith and the community she was part of. However, her greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her son, Rodney Lee Bass, and his wife Nan of Sulphur Springs, Texas, her son-in-law, Mark Barnhill, and his wife Susan of Kingwood, Texas. Her grandchildren-Reed Bass and his wife Lindsey, Melissa Ewing and her husband Gentry, and Addison Rhudy and his wife Jessica-were the light of her life. Joy was also a proud great-grandmother to Mason Ewing, Easton Ewing, Emersen Bass, Mylah Bass, Raelynn Bass, Mabel Bass, Zeke Rhudy, and Cora Rhudy. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Hargett of McKinney, Texas.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Imogene Mason, her beloved husband, Roy Lee Bass, her daughter Rebecca Lynn Bass-Barnhill, and her granddaughter Brittany Barnhill.
Pallbearers for Joy's service will be Reed Bass, Gentry Ewing, Alan King, Mark Barnhill, Addison Rhudy, Scott Smith, and honorary, Larry Lumm.
A private family service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to Southside Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas.
Joy's warm spirit, deep love for her family, and dedication to her community will never be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be deeply missed.
