- In Memory Of Robert B. Bass
Robert B. Bass, age 86, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at Shannondale Health Care. Born Sept. 19, 195, in Michaux, Va. Before World War II, he attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. on an academic scholarship. he served four years with the U.S. Army in the European Theater as a member of the 4th Armo9red Division attached to Gen. George Pattons Third Army He landed in Normandy, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, that liberated Bastogne. After the war, he attended Randolph Macon College of Ashland, Va., and received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. Bob began his pharmacy career in Knoxville in 1950, with Coles Drug Store, later co-owned a store at Grove Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and retired from Revco Drug Stores in 1984, after many years service at Broadway Clinton Plaza, and Cumberland Ave. Revco?s. He was very helpful to his customers and they loved him very much, Preceded in death by parents, George I. and Elizabeth Webb Bas; brothers, Woolsey and William Bass; sisters, Lucille Bass and Maxine Drake, and infant grandson, Alexander Shelby Bass. Member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and the Faithful mens Bible Class. He loved to travel and he and his wife of 58 years, Evelyn, traveled around the world. He was also a gifted artist and enjoyed doing pen and ink drawing. He also enjoyed painting in oil. Survived by wife, Evelyn William Bass; sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey W. and Louise Phillips Bass of Yorktown, Va., Robert Michael Bass of Jonesborough, Tenn.; grandchildren, Sydney, Lauren, Brent and Hannah Bass; all of Yorktown, Va.; sister Shirley Ann Spars of Cumberland, Va. and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Friday; Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Dr. James McCluskey and Rev. Kent Williams officiating. Family and friends will meet at the main entrance to Highland Memorial Cemetery 11:45 a.m. Saturday for interment at 12 Noon, with Full Military Honors by Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. The family wished to express their gratitude to the Staff at Shannondale for their help and support. Memorials may be made to Wallace Memorial Baptist Church for Foreign Missions. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
