Lillian Bassett was born in Lura Township July 3, 1888. She has spent most of her life living in the Blue Earth community.
Lillian married George Bassett in 1916 and moved to Fargo, North Dakota for several years where George worked as a salesman. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Perrizo. She has one brother, Frank, who died during World War I. George died in 1930.
Coming back to live in Blue Earth after the death of her husband, Lillian has been an active member of the Home Economics club, Legion Auxillary, Senior Citizens, Friendly Stitchers, WWI Auxiliary for many years. She enjoys antiques and needlepoint. Her son, George, does sculpture work.
The homestead that my grandfather had is still in the Bassett name. Mitchell Bursaw, her grandfather came in 1957 and homesteaded in Verona Township. George Bassett Jr. now resides on the land. Her mother, Josephine, married Sam Perrizo and moved with him to a farm near Delavan where Lillian was born. The Bursaw farm was farmed by her grandfather until he retired in 1893. Since that year the farm was retained in the family and rented out to several different parties. It is interesting to note that the homestead site chosen by the Bursaws was on the river in a wooded area where logs for building were accessible. Her mother, Josephine was the first white child born in Verona township in 1860.
