Duke Laten Crapse
SUMTER, SC - Mr. Duke Laten Crapse, 92, of Sumter, formerly of Hampton County, passed away Wednesday night at the Sumter Valley Health and Rehab Center. Mr. Crapse was born December 5, 1921 in Hampton County, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mae Bassett Crapse. He retired as a fabricator with McCrary's Inc. in Estill and was the husband of the late Evelyn Smith Crapse. Mr. Crapse was a member of the Steep Bottom Baptist Church near Estill. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Jackson Crapse of Sumter; two sons: Jay Thomas Crapse of Winston Salem, NC and Laten Duke Crapse of Raleigh; one daughter: Janice Marshall of Darlington; four step-sons: Mike Tindall of Estill, Larry Jackson of Sumter, Olland Lamar Jackson, Jr. of Columbia, TN, and Josh Grubb and wife Brittany of Sumter; one sister: Annie Mae Zorn of Estill; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Crapse was predeceased by one daughter, Beverly Lynn Nobles. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 3 PM in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, located at 300 Mulberry Street West, Hampton SC 29924 (803-943-3352). Burial will follow in the Sandy Drain Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Estill. Friends may call at the chapel beginning at 2 PM prior to the service.
