W. Streeter Bass Jr.
W. Streeter Bass Jr. died in Williamsburg on Sunday, May 6, 2001.
He was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Wilton, Maine, son of Harriet Carson Bass and Willard S. Bass. He graduated from Wilton Academy, Deerfield Academy, and received his bachelor of arts degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He later received his master's degree from Harvard University.
He served on the Board of Directors at G.H. Bass Company at Wilton, Maine, and at Bangor Theological Seminary at Bangor, Maine. He was on the Development Committee of the Community Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, and at Bowdoin College.
He served overseas with the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 and was also in Berlin from 1953 to 1957. Mr. Bass was an avid skier and helped form the Bowdoin College Ski Club and represented the U.S. Army Ski Team in competition in Norway in 1947.
He taught German at Bowdoin College before he left for Washington, D.C., to be with the C.I.A. He was a former member of the Choir of Bruton Parish Church, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, with the Rev. Molly Douglas and the Rev. Ainsley Thockmorton officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rita S. Bass; his son, Charles W. Bass of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; a daughter, H. Carson Lutes of Scarborough, Maine; and six grandchildren, Matthew Little, Amanda Little, Abigail Johnson, Austin Bass, Alexandra Bass and Jonathon Bass.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bangor Seminary, Bangor, Maine.
