Alice K. Bass

Alice Katherine (Hunt) Bass, 77, of South Bend, Ind., was called home to be with our Lord at 3:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, after courageously battling a longtime illness.
Alice was born on June 5, 1926, in Tupelo, Miss., to the union of the late Samuel ?Bubba? and AnnaBell (Ross) Hunt. She was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Willa Mae ?Baby Sister? Dunlap; and by a brother, James H. Hunt.
Alice attended school in Armory, Miss., and cosmetology school in Kansas City, Kan. Alice later settled in South Bend where she met the man she would soon marry, Frank L. Bass.
During the 1970?s, Alice worked for the South Bend Community School Corporation as a paraprofessional and she most recently worked for Real Services? Foster Grandparents Program.
Cherishing Alice?s memory along with her husband are two daughters, Tracey L. Bass and Crystal M. (Gregory) Wilson, both of South Bend, and one stepdaughters, Sandra Yarber of South Bend. She is also survived by three sisters, Frances Harden, Geraldine Nailon and Gloria Gatlin, all of South Bend. One special nephew, Leon Townsend, and one special godson, Charles Holmes, both of South Bend, also survive, along with 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and a host of friends and relatives.
Services for Mrs. Bass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 1232 E. Bronson, South Bend. Friends may call one hour before services. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
The Clark-O?Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with services.
