Born on 2 November 1886 in Omagh, Ireland - next of kin, John Bassett, Ottawa, Ontario - attestation form notes trade as broker, single, no current military service, previously served with the Honourable Artillery Company, height of 5 feet 10 inches, chest of 38th inches, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, Presbyterian.
Joined the 21st Canadian Infantry Battalion on 15 January 1915 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion in France on 19 July 1916 - transferred to the 12th Canadian Infantry Brigade as an Orderly Officer on 3 August 1916 - transferred to the Canadian Rep. General Headquarters as an Orderly Officer on 20 September 1916 - transferred to the 142nd Infantry Brigade as a S/Captain on 31 March 1918 - transferred to the 125th Infantry Brigade as a S/Captain on 10 April 1918 - sent to England on 31 July 1918 - served with the Military Headquarters in Ottawa from 11 September 1918 to 31 March 1919.
