      Lucas Bassett

Lucas Bass, an early settler of Milford township, having lived in that locality over fifty years, died at his home near South Milford Monday morning as the result of a stoke of apoplexy. Mr. Bassett was born in Vermont seventy-three years ago. He was stricken with apoplexy last Thursday while driving a team of horses, assisting his son-in-law, James Myers, in moving his household goods. Mr. Myers noticed the horses wandering along the roadside, and, not seeing Mr. bassett on the wagon, he stopped them and found the aged man lying helpless in the wagon. He was taken to the Jacob Wert home, and medical assistance was summoned. The Chappell ambulance was called Friday to remove him to his own home, where he died Monday morning. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters ? Mrs. William Randall, Stroh; Mrs. Ella Shipe, Battle Creek, and Mrs. James Myers, South Milford ? and three sons ? George, Frank and Orlando, all of South Milford. The funeral will be held Thursday from the Methodist church, the Rev. L.W. Kemper officiating.

In a letter from Mildred Todd, it mentions the breakup of Lucas and Christina and that court records in LaGrange County, Indiana have more information about this. She married (2) Mr. Westby and both she and a baby died in child birth.
