  Notes	The Purcell Register, Oklahoma, 9 March 1933 William Bass Dies Suddenly Sunday Funeral for Pioneer Held Tuesday At First Christian Church Was 80 Years Old Funeral services for William Mullens Bass, who died suddenly Sunday morning, were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Churchtian church, conducted by Rev. J.H. Challenner. A. Gathering that filled the church was present to pay last respects to the departed pioneer. Many beautiful floral offerings added their bit of consolation to the bereaved family. Interment was mde in Hillside cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Messrs. William Pearce, Alex Sacra, James Crawford, Sr., Anthony Gray, Park Needham, Lonnie Lane, L. Bonneau, George Jones. Active pallbearers were George Pearce, Sam Bridwell, Will Tally, James Crawford, Jr. n eil McElderry and J.C. Barger. Mr. Bass was born in Miller county, Missouri, December 4, 1852, died March 5, 1933 in Purcell, Oklahoma, aged 80 years, four months and one day. He was united in marriage with Destimonia Simpson, in Cole county, Missouri, September 7, 1871. He is survived by his wife and the following children: C.M. Bass, Altus, Oklahoma; Mrs. Ila Bailey, Wichita, Kansas; E.O. Bass, Cushing, Oklahoma; Gus Bass, Goose Creek, Texas; Lynn Bass, Oklahoma City; Roy Bass, Oklahoma City; Ernest Bass, Purcell; Mrs. James R. Davis, Purcell. One child, William Metheldred Bass, died in infancy. The deceased moved from Wise county, Texas, to Purcell, Indian Territory in 1889 and resided here until his death. Mr. Bass had been apparently in good health and announcement of his passing Sunday morning came as a distinct shock to all citizens, who knew him. Mr. Bass was held in the highest esteem by all. Four years ago, he retired from active service with the Santa Fe and was placed on their honorary pension roll. He had been with the company here about 24 years and at a prior time had served several years. The Register extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family ? Purcell has lost one of the town?s most substantial citizens and the family a kind father and husband.
